The children at Afiti Bongô are like our own – full of curiosity, hope, and joy. Every day gives them the chance to learn, play, and dream. Despite difficult circumstances, they find security, friendship, and support here. These children are the future of Cameroon. With love, education, and care, we help them to realise their dreams. Their shining eyes show that every moment counts – they carry within them the hope of an entire country.

Behind Afiti Bongô is a dedicated team that works with heart and mind – in Switzerland as well as in Cameroon. In Cameroon, our colleagues implement the jointly developed strategy every day: the board, the director, the finance manager, our driver, the guards, the mothers, the tutors, and the coach. As the saying goes, »It takes a village to raise a child.« Together, we are building this village that every child needs to grow, learn, and feel safe and secure.

Three very special people serve as an important link between Cameroon and Switzerland: Zoé Nke, who has been with Afiti Bongô since birth and is the best example of the connection between the two countries, Singuila, a singer with millions of clicks on Spotify and YouTube, and former FC Basel professional footballer Timothy Atouba. All three build bridges, connect ideas, and ensure that our vision remains alive.

Our ambassadors are at the heart of the connection between Switzerland and Cameroon. In Switzerland, dedicated individuals form working groups who actively contribute to shaping the association. From flea markets or action weeks like »Cake for Kids« to larger events such as the »Charity Night« or the »Charity Concerts« – we create opportunities to give hope together and enable sustainable support for children in Cameroon.

Geschichte

Story

Afiti Bongô originated from the vision of Virginie Nke, who was born in Cameroon and grew up in Switzerland. Since 2005, she has been passionately committed to helping orphans in Cameroon. In 2013, together with three women from the Basel area, she founded the association Afiti Bongô – Hope for Children, to provide children in need with a home and future prospects. A major milestone was the opening of their first home in Yaoundé in 2017. Today, with NGO-like recognition in Cameroon since 2023, Afiti Bongô continues to do everything possible to ensure that every child can grow up in safety, love, and dignity – a place where hope is visible.
